Piccione Vineyards Exhibits Vision

Now featured at the heArt & Soul of the Yadkin Valley gallery tasting room is Piccione Vineyards.  These fresh flavors highlight the Yadkin Valley’s fertility with Italian varietals of grapes touched by other bounty grown on the property.

Inspired by Giuseppe Piccione’s nod to his Sicilian roots, the vineyard was started by his son and grandchildren in 2010 after watching their predecessor experiment with the traditional culinary art of winemaking.  The current tasting room and patio with vast views overlooks a gated vineyard with the teaser of a new tasting room expanding guests’ vision for the future of the winery.

Guests at heArt & Soul of the Yadkin Valley can get a teaser of the tastes offered at Piccione, the most unique of which is the Nero.  The deep taste of cherry is complemented by the floral fragrance touched by pepper and followed with a kiss of butterscotch.  The first to plant the Neroamaro and only one of two wineries in the region to offer it, Piccione considers the Nero a “cult wine” with visitors making it a special request.

Those who prefer a bolder flavor may want to chose the Tramonto.  This blend of Montepulciano & Sangiovese holds scents leather and oak with balanced flavors of fruit finished with firmness.  A lighter red is the Sangiovese with its cherry atmosphere touched by strawberry.

Piccione also offers two dry whites produced in stainless steel vats.  The summery Vermentino smells of a light fruit garden with crisp tastes of citrus and lime.  A hint of fall comes out in the Pinot Grigio with its apple and baking spice touches that are perfect any time.

Tasters of the Rosato can understand why it recently won Gold at the Finger Lakes Wine Festival.  The dry rose is made with Sangranito surrounded by hints of fruit making it a nice balance for a company of mixed tastes.

We invite you to visit 113 East Main Street in downtown Elkin where you can sip at a glass of Piccione wine this month while you learn more about the arts and culture of the region at the heArt & Soul of the Yadkin Valley gallery.
